 Roll Call and Introductions

Liz Walker, new Championships Manager at  US SAILING was introduced.

 Items for discussion included:

  1. For the 2004 (and future years) Championships schedule, see the Planning Calendar on the U S SAILING website.   It will be updated with information gathered at this meeting, and a list of events seeking venues will be publicized.  Any club wishing to host a championship should contact Karen Reisch or Liz Walker.  Host Club Guidelines for US SAILING Championships have been revised as of  March 2004, and are on the website.
  2. NOR’s for seven of the championships have been posted on the US SAILING website.  NOR’s will be dated and will be marked “Preliminary”, and will be finalized no later than 30 days before the event.
  3. Publicity for the championships was acknowledged in the article by Cynthia Goss and Marlieke Eaton in “US SAILING”, Spring 2004 issue.  Rolex Watch, USA, Vanguard and Disney were thanked for their sponsorship.
  4. All were reminded to use the title of the championship, rather than the name of the trophy, when referring to a championship, for example, US Women’s Sailing Championship, rather than “The Adams”.
  5. A brochure on US SAILING Logo Style Guide and Name Use Guidelines is available on the website.  All were reminded to use the logo properly and to use the correct ink colors, etc.  This information should be given to the host clubs for use in advertising, programs, artwork, shirts, etc.
  6. Jim Capron gave another explanation and answered questions on the US SAILING Championships and Certified Judges and Race Officers.  It was agreed that improvement in this area is needed.  Information on these requirements will be added to the bid package.
  7. Betsy Altman made a presentation on the Sailor Athlete Council, and encouraged everyone to distribute the registration form at his or her championship, and at other events at their respective clubs.
  8. A form and letter to be signed by a trophy recipient is being revised.  It will include instructions on care of the trophy and timeline for its return.  Mr. Fendler had also prepared guidelines for donation of a new trophy.
  9. Rolex Watch, U. S. A continues to be the major sponsor for the adult championships.  Rolex supplied hats to the competitors, personalized for each event, flags and banners, and money for clinics at each event.  Rolex’s support in contracted through 2005.
  10. A number of items to be added to NOR’s and/ or  SIs were discussed.  These have not been finalized to date, but will be finalized and in force for the 2004 Championships:  Policy on youth drugs and drinking;  medical release form (Sports Medicine Committee); and a US SAILING Prescription regarding personal indemnity and hold harmless forms.

The Meeting adjourned at 2:10 PM.

 Respectfully submitted,

 Karen Reisch

Chair, Championships Committee
