The Chubb U.S. Junior Championships is US Sailing’s most historic regatta. First sailed in 1921, the championship is recognized as one of the preeminent youth sailing events in the U.S. Top junior single-, double-, and triplehanded sailors who have earned the right to compete by participating in regional qualifiers will race for the coveted Sears Cup and the Bemis and Smythe Trophies.

This 2014 US Sailing National Championship event will be hosted by the Grand Traverse Yacht Club in Traverse City, Mich. on August 4-8. Racing will take place in the Interlake, Club 420, and Byte CII. Learn more about this year’s championship in the Notice of Race (hyperlink).

About the Championships

The Chubb U.S. Junior Championships is US Sailing’s most historic regatta. Championship Facts & Features

  • Competitors range in age between 13 and 18.
  • Each Area is eligible to send at least one sailor / team to compete in each of the fleets.
  • Sailors race in boats provided by US Sailing and the host at the event site to ensure the quality of the equipment and a level playing field.
  • A one day racing clinic led by US Sailing’s Junior National Coach will be held prior to the start of the championship.
  • Coaches provide instruction on charter boat assignments, rigging and handling, starts, and practice races.
  • Other speakers and presentations may be scheduled to educate these you sailors on opportunities in college sailing and pathways to Olympic sailing success.
