The introduction of the Laser SB3 has revolutionized one-design sportsboat racing in Europe and is now poised to provide the same opportunity across the world. The SB3 provides sailors of all ages and abilities to enjoy competitive, involving, high-performance racing at a reasonable price which has meant that many of the baby-boomer generation have come back to sailing. In only four years, the SB3 has become the largest class at Cowes Week (89 boats in 2006) and fleets have spread to Ireland, France and Italy. Unlike many other pportsboats, the SB3 combines well-thought out design which minimizes costly maintenance, expensive tow-vehicles, and crane/mooring fees. It also provides exciting and tactical sailing without the need for a crew of athletes. Also, the marketing of the boat has been an object lesson in how to do it right where so many have failed before.
