1. ISAF Regulations: We have three recommendations on the Web Site and Paul Miller is finalizing the proposed wording on two more---submissions on structural scantlings and submissions on hatches---these need to be finalized and sent to the Board for their approval. The National Offshore Council will meet briefly after our meeting to also consider their support for our Committee's proposals. 2. Bill Stump had drafted Terms of Reference for the SACS and I would like us to discuss them and get them also to the Board for their approval. Along this same line, I have been told that there may be term limits for our Committee members and if there are I propose that we consider NOT adopting them. My thinking is that Term Limits are appropriate for Chairs and other leadership positions, but may not be in the best interest of US Sailing for Committee members. The unique experience of our many Committee members should not be limited by time. If key members want to continue to serve, US Sailing benefits. I don't have much background on this matter, but feel that our members should not be bound by term limits if we have the flexibility, and they desire to stay involved. 3. I've asked Dan Nowlan to discuss the ISAF compliant SAS training request by the HSN Nord Bank race on June 16 & 23, and how we could meet this request. 4. Paul Miller has advised me via email that he will finish up the existing Hanson Awards and then pass this effort off to others on the SASC. I would request a discussion regarding other Committee members who would be willing to take this responsibility that Paul has handled so outstandingly. 5. There are three additional individuals who have expressed interest in the SASC or were inadvertently left of the current Committee roster. They are Dave Lumian, Kirk Brown and Renee Mehl (who Paul is recommending replace him). All are invited to the Newport meeting and I will submit their names to the Board for their approval 6. If time allows, I would request Chuck Hawley
lead a further discussion of the book we want to develop to supplement
our SAS Training efforts. |
