US SAILOR Of The Week
Bill Gladstone

Bill Gladstone
Bill Gladstone’s lifelong love for sailing began at the age of ten in a 10’ O'Day Sprite on Cape Cod (MA). He started sharing his passion for the sport in 1973 when he landed his first job as a sailing instructor at a Rhode Island YMCA camp. Since then, he has raced and taught sailing in various types of boats and types of competition - from dinghies to big boats, from match to distance races. These days, Bill shares his expertise in the sport of sailing as director of North U, North Sail’s educational arm. Bill recently teamed up with US SAILING to offer the new US SAILING Racing Rules seminars presented by North U to sailing organizations nationwide. According to Bill, “If you don’t know the rules, you can’t play the game.” Over the years, nearly 100,000 sailors worldwide have attended Bill's seminars or purchased his books and CDs. "When I go racing, I get beat by my students all the time. I guess that's a good thing," he says, adding that the great thing about sailing is that there's always something new to learn. Bill knows what he's doing, his extensive list of sailing credentials include serving as Commodore for Yale Corinthian Yacht Club, officiating and judging for numerous national and international regattas, founding his own sailing school, teaching racing seminars and publishing a series of performance racing books. Way to go, Bill!
