US SAILING Spring Meeting
Colorado Springs, CO
March 15, 2001
APPROVED MINUTES OF GENERAL SERVICES COMMITTEE
Item 1:
Don Kern reported for the CSA on organizational memberships. CSA
recommends
that:
(a) Organizational categories of memberships be reduced from 5 to 1 (RSAs
excluded).
(b) All organizations (except RSAs) be classified as Local Sailing
Organizations (LSOs).
(c) All LSOs pay the same US SAILING Regular (minimum level) annual
membership dues.
(d) US SAILING's offer of reduced or differential dues to LSOs belonging
to an RSA be eliminated.
(e) The determination of Regular (minimum level) annual membership dues
for LSOs be subject to further study.
Staff will research and recommend a dues level for Committee and CSA
consideration before the 2002 AGM with the aim of presenting to the
Board of Directors, at the 2002 AGM, a proposed restructuring of the
organizational membership categories and the annual dues that the
organizations will be assessed.
Item 2:
Hugh Elliot reported on the Communications Committee
(CC) meeting. CC recommends the establishment of a US SAILING newsletter
to be distributed quarterly to all members as soon as practical. CC will
be developing recommendations on budget, content, format, etc.
CC Submitted Terms of Reference to GSC, unanimously approved.
Item 3:
Nel Roberts reported on Staff issues. Staff is developing a marketing
plan to increase membership through both acquisition and retention.
After nearly one year of increased dues, membership revenues have more
than offset the attrition rate.
Item 4:
Staff is researching and will be making a recommendation for a lifetime
membership for general members.
Item 5:
GSC endorses the resolution for consideration of a Keelboat Cruising
Council and believes it will enhance the growth and retention of
members.
Item 6:
Staff will add multi-year memberships at higher levels as an option to
renewing and new members on all paper and electronic application forms.
Item 7:
Merchandise sales from the website continue to improve. Staff member
Linda Christofersen was recognized for her great enthusiasm and donation
in time in the set up of the new merchandise software.
Respectfully submitted,
Don Durant, Chairman |
