Minutes of the General Services Committee Meeting

- The meeting was called to order at 3 pm.
- After receiving the consent of the bidders in attendance, the
Committee met in Open Session and reviewed the insurance proposals from
ACE-INA, Gowrie, Barden & Brett, Myers-Briggs and Starkweather & Shepley
At 4:30 pm Messrs. McCarthy, McCarthy, Prime, Keefe and the audience
excused themselves, and the Committee continued to meet in the Executive
Session. A motion was passed in support of the Gowrie, Barden & Brett
proposal. (See Action Item)
The Committee then resumed its meeting in open session.
- CSA representative, Don Kern, presented a recommendation to
streamline sailing organization dues levels and to establish a minimum
dues level for organizations of $100 per calendar year. A motion was
passed to adopt the new organizational dues structure. (See Action Item)
- Glenn McCarthy reported that website hits for both the Membership
and Merchandise pages of the website had declined versus last year.
- Nel Roberts reported that individual membership numbers were
improving slightly while organizational membership numbers were well
ahead of projections for FY 2002.
- Hugh Elliott reported on the results of the Communications
Committee. The General Services Committee voted to endorse the
newsletter budget as revised by the Communications Committee. Sally
Helme abstained.
- A motion was passed to change the final function of the Terms of
Reference as follows: "To oversee the Association’s communications and
public relations."
- The Committee discussed the letter from Premiere Racing, Inc.
concerning regatta insurance and was informed that the matter had been
addressed by the Executive Committee. Gene McCarthy emphasized that the
staff should refrain from appearing to conduct insurance business.
- The meeting adjourned at 5:40 pm.
