US SAILING

Full Report - Day 1

Friday, June 22

The south in the summer time is known for its heat and there is no exception for the 2007 U.S. Youth Sailing Championship. Humidity and temperatures in the mid 90s, greeted the last of the sailors as they arrived at Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans. With the winds out of the east between 5-10 mph, many were anxious to get onto Lake Pontchartrain, the championship's venue for racing.

Later in the evening, the sailors will attend an opening ceremony and dinner where Hjalmar Breit, Southern Yacht Club's Commodore will speak.  Special thanks to the Dickie Provensal, the Regatta Chair, Chris Clement and Nathan Adams, the PROs, and Angie Provensal as well as all the wonderful volunteers from Southern Yacht Club who welcomed the sailors to this year's event. Everyone is here safely and ready to start the Advanced Racing Clinic tomorrow.
