Weather Delays Racing at
U.S. Multihull Championship for the Alter Cup
Clearwater,
FL (April 10,
2003) -- Early morning and late afternoon weather limited competition to 3
races yesterday. To
extend the fleet split from 12 races to 16 four races
were needed. Winds were still generally out of the south but only 6
to 10 knots, at least until the thunderstorms blew racers
off the course at around 4
pm. In the end none of Wednesday's racing will count, and the teams
will move directly to the gold and silver fleet finals, taking their scores
from the 1st 12 races. The fleet split
was announced at 6 pm. Struble
& Oliver lead the gold fleet. Young Chris Batchelor sailing with his dad
Mark is first in silver. The fleets will alternate racing through the final
two days of competition to determine the national champion.
Thursday's weather is calling for West Northwest winds at 15 gusting
to 25.
You can follow the regatta

Why the races did not count yesterday?
The Sailing Instructions state that fleet split to Silver and Gold take
place after 12 races or 16 races have been completed. At the end of
yesterdays racing, the could only complete 15 races, so the split takes pace
at the 12 race designation...
