The 2007 U.S. Offshore Championship began today under gray October skies and in the rain.  Today was the distance race.  Last year's championship, Robert Hobbs is keen to defend his title and started off strongly by taking the gun today.

Tomorrow the fleet will sail shorter courses, which may mix things up a bit.  Unfortunately for the sailors, the forecast is for more rain but with it will come more wind.
