US SAILING Board of Directors Election
In October 2005, US SAILING amended its Bylaws to restructure the organization and dramatically downsize the Board of Directors, from 49 to 15 members, making the Board more nimble and efficient. Last November, for the first time ever, the members of US SAILING directly elected the members of the Board of Directors. From now on, three seats on the Board will be open annually for election. As a member, you have the power to directly elect these Board members, thereby building ownership in the organization and selecting the best people to lead the sport in the United States.
This year, members will elect three individuals to the Board of Directors (one Director is running unopposed). Members of the Board serve for three-year terms, in rotation. The Board of Directors will elect the President for a one-year term (the president is running unopposed).
The newly elected members will join Gary Jobson as new members of the Board of Directors. Gary Jobson was recently named to the Board by President Jim Capron. Following the organization's bylaws, the President gets to nominate one select Board member who "is a high profile individual whose personal involvement on the Board of Directors is likely to elevate the sport." Capron's nomination was accepted unanimously by the Board. Jobson's term on the Board is for three years.
Online Voting Closed on October 19. The last chance to vote is in person at the Annual Meeting in Phoenix on October 28
